About

One business, one gallery, one long apprenticeship in South African art.

The Kruger family's involvement in the art trade traces its roots to 1961, when Charles Kruger began selling paintings while completing his theological studies. De Oude Meesters Art Gallery followed in 1969, and with it a settled tradition of dealing in South African paintings.

Llewellyn Kruger has worked in that trade since the early 1980s — South African press reporting in 2021 described him as having spent approximately forty years in the art industry. For much of that time the business took established South African art beyond the metropolitan galleries: reporting from 2014 documents Llewellyn Kruger and De Oude Kunstgalerij touring the country with collections and presenting exhibitions in different towns, and before the Covid period his agents were reported to be visiting roughly ten to fourteen towns a month. The collector relationships built that way still run through the business today.

Today we operate as Kunssinnig, based at 2A Môreson Avenue, Valmary Park, Durbanville. Alongside the gallery, the brokerage handles valuation, provenance research and authentication assessment, including X-ray-supported examination that can assist in examining an artwork's underlying structure and construction as part of a broader assessment.

ArtsySA is the wider fine-art business. Kunssinnig Gallery is its physical gallery in Durbanville, where the collection is seen in person. Llewellyn Kruger International Art Brokers is the specialist brokerage arm.
