Biography

Titta Fasciotti (also known as F.A. “Scotty”) was an Italian-born South African painter. Born in Bergamo in 1927 into a family of artists, he studied at the Bergamo Academy before moving to South Africa in 1948. Under the mentorship of W.G. Wiles, he developed a lyrical style combining European technique with African subject matter. Fasciotti became known for village and rural landscapes, often featuring Xhosa women and South African countryside scenes. Over his career he held 31 solo exhibitions beginning in 1963. His use of color and local themes made him a noted figure in mid-century South African art.
