Hennie Griesel was a South African still-life painter known for his realistic depictions of everyday objects. Born in Tzaneen in 1931, he was largely self-taught and began painting as a young boy. Griesel had no formal training, instead honing his craft by observation of nature and objects around him. He became especially noted for his meticulous still-life paintings of copper pots, porcelain and vases, bringing ordinary materials to life with subtle light and texture. He also painted floral and animal subjects. Griesel's disciplined realism and eye for detail made him a respected figure in South African art.
