Danie Marais
Biography
Danie Marais (b. 1978, Pretoria) is a prominent contemporary South African painter whose hyper-realistic wildlife and botanical works are celebrated for their technical mastery and emotional depth. Raised between South Africa and Namibia, Marais formalised his practice by studying Fine Art at the Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein. Originally trained as a precision goldsmith, he later transitioned into a full-time painting career, translating his meticulous eye for detail onto large-scale canvases. Working from his private studio in the coastal town of Langebaan, South Africa, Marais has developed a signature style defined by heavily textured, multi-layered applications of oil and acrylic paint. His practice focuses on capturing the raw essence of the African landscape—ranging from dramatic wildlife encounters to the sculptural form of indigenous flora and Nguni cattle. Guided by a strict philosophy of exclusivity, Marais produces only one-of-a-kind original masterpieces, ensuring that no subject or composition is ever duplicated. His artwork is highly sought after by private collectors globally and is regularly exhibited through leading South African galleries, including Kunssinnig Gallery and Marzé Botha Art Gallery.
