James Harris is a South African painter trained in a classical and impressionistic style. He studied Fine Art at Pretoria's Pro Arte School and later at Natal Technikon. Harris works mainly in oils, drawing influence from the “Old Master” tradition. He is acclaimed for his sensitive impressionistic approach, using mood and color to capture the atmosphere of his subjects. His paintings often feature figures and landscapes rendered with thick impasto and rich color, evoking the romanticism of European and South African heritage. Harris has exhibited widely and is regarded as one of South Africa's leading contemporary artists.
