Titta Fasciotti was an Italian-born South African artist. Born in 1927 in Bergamo, Italy, he studied at the Accademia Carrara. He emigrated to South Africa in 1948 to join his father. From 1952–55 he was mentored by W.G. Wiles. Fasciotti painted landscapes, seascapes and figure studies, often with a focus on Xhosa women and rural scenes. Over his career he held 31 solo exhibitions (first in Johannesburg, 1963) and became well-known for his luminous palettes and depictions of the South African landscape. His works remain sought after for their blend of European technique and local subject matter.
