Biography

Anton Gericke is a Johannesburg-born South African painter known for his rich, illustrative style. He began painting at age 6, grew up traveling (his parents ran a hotel) and later studied pharmacy and art. He took art courses at Technikon Port Elizabeth and was mentored by noted artists Errol Boyley and Isabel le Roux. Over a career spanning more than 70 years, Gericke developed a distinctive, narrative style. His work often blends traditional and modern elements, reflecting his varied experience; galleries praise his “distinctive style capturing the essence of his extensive experience and influences”. Gericke's oils and watercolors frequently depict historical and literary themes, informed by his studies and travels.
