Brian Scott-Dawkins

Biography

Brian Scott-Dawkins was a South African wildlife painter renowned for his pastel-toned safari scenes. He grew up in the King William's Town area, attended Dale College, and eventually settled in Johannesburg. Largely self-taught, he drew inspiration from South Africa's arid landscapes and animals. In 1985 Scott-Dawkins debuted a popular series of pastel wildlife paintings; he later worked on numerous commissioned animal portraits, focusing on elephants, lions, zebras and other safari wildlife. His luminous palette and semi-desert settings became his trademark. Collectors worldwide sought his realistic, sentimental depictions of African fauna until his death in 2024.
